Alberta Wright

Wright opened Jezebel in Manhattan’s theater district in 1983. New Yorkers treasured the vintage vibe of the dining room and her chicken and waffles, garlic shrimp, and she-crab soup. Born to sharecroppers in Pineville, South Carolina, Wright learned to cook by watching her mother.
