Edna Lewis was born on her grandfather's farm (born 1916). She Wrote a book called "The Taste of Country Cooking" as well as a cookbook. She made southern meals/dishes. She moved from home to D.C then to N.Y.C. Lived to 90 and died from Cancer in 2006.
For a while she made dresses for celebrities. There weren't very many African American chefs at that time. She even won some important awards.
