Fannie Lou Hamer

Mississippi | 1962

Hamer founded Freedom Farm Cooperative in 1969. The Mississippi agricultural cooperative built on 680 acres included a pig bank, community gardens, and commercial kitchen. Hamer offered educational and re-training opportunities for Black sharecroppers and tenant farmers.
