George Crum worked at Lake House resort before moving to his own restaurant, Crumb's House. A person at the resort asked for extra-thin french fries, so he cut the fries as thin as he could, put them in grease, and served them. Surprisingly, they loved the "crisps"!
George eventually served a basket of chips at every table in his restaurant, so everybody could taste the new culinary genius. He never planned to widely distribute his chips as consumer products. George was born in 1824 and died in 1914. The snack company, Lays, adopted Crum's idea of potato chips in 1932, eventually being mass produced and sold worldwide.
