Henry Jakes

Baltimore, Maryland | 1850s

Jakes was Baltimore’s foremost caterer and event cook in the mid-1800s. Famed for his stewed terrapin and oysters, he shipped Chesapeake delicacies to Chicago and even California. His assistant, Benjamin Franklin Simms, took over the shipping business after Jakes died in 1881.
