James Hemings was the first American to train in a French kitchen and he was also enslaved by Thomas Jefferson. Hemings introduced America to European-style ice cream, french fries, mac & cheese and more. He cooked for politicians and celebrities. James Hemings even cooked the historic meal between Thomas Jefferson and Alexander Hamilton. He was born in 1765 and sadly died in 1801.
