James Hemings

Charles city county, Virginia | 1719-1818

James Hemings was born in Virginia and became enslaved to Thomas Jefferson's by an inheritance. He studied to be a chef in Paris. He also introduced french fries to the United States. It is believed that Hemings took his own life in 1801.
