Karen Washington

New York City, New York | 1919-Present

Karen Washington was born and raised in New York and has lived here her entire life. She was a physical therapist for most of her life but after seeing the lack of healthy food in Black communities she decided to follow her true passion which was farming. In 2010, she co-founded Black Urban Growers or BUGs. In her free time she likes to teach young fresh minds of New York the importance of farming and gardening in our communities.
Karen Washington was born in 1956 and is still helping our communities garden and farm today. So let's all thank her for what she has accomplished.
