Jackson capitalized on her celebrity as the “Queen of Gospel” and a Civil Rights activist to open a national chain of restaurants in 1968. Mahalia Jackson's Glori-Fried Chicken was located in Black communities and offered employment opportunities, ownership, and other benefits.
