Malinda Russell

Russell, a pastry shop owner, published the first known cookbook by an African American author. Her 1866 work, A Domestic Cook Book: A Careful Selection of Useful Receipts For the Kitchen, was published in Michigan and consists largely of sophisticated desserts and baked goods.
