Nellie Murray

New Orleans, Louisiana | 1870s

Murray was born into enslavement on a Louisiana plantation owned by Governor Paul Hebert. After the Civil War, she worked as a salaried cook and catered events. Noted as the city’s foremost caterer, Murray went on to cater some of the most significant social galas in New Orleans.
