Norbert Rillieux

1819-1918

Norbert Rillieux developed a safer system for refining and crystallizing sugar from 1834-1843, helping workers who got terrible burns from transporting ladles of scalding hot sugar. This process was called "The Jamaica Train", and was dangerous for everyone involved.
