Richard Huey

Harlem, New York | 1933

Huey, a figure in Harlem’s theatre scene, opened Aunt Dinah’s Kitchen in 1933. Located next to the 135th Street YMCA, the eatery hosted one-act plays, forums, and served as a locale for actors who needed a free meal. Some of the diners included Langston Hughes and Count Basie.
