Afro-Dutch of New York and New Jersey

New York | 1600s

In the early 1600s, Africans enslaved by the Dutch in New Amsterdam (parts of modern-day New York and New Jersey) grew and prepared food for the northern colonies. These provisions were also exported to Caribbean sugar plantations.
