Robert Renfroe (Black Bobb)

Nashville, Tennessee | 1794

Owner of a prominent tavern in Nashville, Tennessee until 1816, Renfroe was granted the right to sell “liquor and victuals” in a 1794 Davidson County Court document. In 1800, his bar was so popular that after a white man attacked Renfroe, the white man was indicted.
