Agnes Moody

Hagerstown, Maryland | 1852

Moody became a global ambassador of corn cuisine after escaping enslavement on a Hagerstown, Maryland, plantation in 1852. She served dishes such as corn soup, cornbread, and flapjacks at the World Exposition in Paris and touted Native American and Black foodways on a world stage.
