Born Lelia McWilliams to Madam C.J. Walker, she was the president of her mother’s iconic hair and beauty business from 1919 to 1931. A figure in the Harlem Renaissance, A'Lelia was a patron of the arts who entertained Harlem’s elite at cultural salons and dinner parties.
