Cato Alexander

New York | 1810s

Alexander’s eponymous bar and inn at 54th Street and 2nd Avenue was a Manhattan mainstay from the 1810s to the 1840s. Cato’s Tavern was known for gin cocktails, brandy juleps, and punches. Upon a forced closure, Alexander briefly opened an oyster and steak saloon.
