Lyons spent 25 years as the food editor at Ebony, where she was a regular presence in the iconic EbonyTest Kitchen. In 1999, she wrote The New Ebony Cookbook, which featured recipes such as spinach manicotti, orange-raisin rice, bourbon-barbecued ribs, and stir fried asparagus.
