Corn on Trans-Atlantic Voyages

1600s

European colonists learned of corn from Native Americans. The crop became a common presence on transatlantic voyages. While maize was already familiar to many Africans from global trade, corn supplanted the ancient indigenous seed, millet, once Africans arrived in the colonies.
