James Hemings

Virginia | 1719-1818

James Hemings was born in Virginia 1765. When he was 8 years old he became one of Thomas Jefferson's slaves. Then at age 19 he went to Paris to learn about food. Although he did not invent mac and cheese he did introduce it to the U.S when he came back from France. He also introduced ice cream to the U.S along with creme brulee and french fries.
