Julee Panton

Pensacola, Florida | 1809

The first free African American woman to own land in the Seville neighborhood of Pensacola, Florida, Panton sold pastries and soap out of her home. She was forced to repurchase her land when her ownership was challenged. She was known to help other enslaved people buy their freedom.
