Lena Richard

New Orleans, Louisiana | 1930

Richard, a respected chef and caterer in New Orleans, opened her own cooking school to teach the art of food preparation. In 1939, she published a cookbook. In 1949, she became the first African American, and possibly the first person in the US, to have a television cooking show.
