Jean Baptiste Point du Sable

Chicago, Illinois | 1782

Born in St. Domingue (current-day Haiti) the son of an African woman and a white sailor, du Sable traveled along the Mississippi River and established a trading post on the land that became Chicago. The post included a mill, bakery, dairy, poultry house, and smokehouse.
