John Stanard

Newark, New Jersey | 1891

In 1889, Stanard received a patent for an oil stove that could be used in confined spaces. It was particularly useful for keeping buffet-style meals warm on trains. Later, he received a second patent for improvements to the icebox, which helped keep food cool for longer periods.
